Production starts on RFDS season three

Filming of acclaimed Aussie drama moves to South Australia for new season

Pre-production on the third season of the Seven Network’s TV WEEK Logie Award- nominated drama RFDS has commenced.

Produced by Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Entertainment Company) for Seven – with major production investment from Screen Australia, Seven and the South Australian Film Corporation – the lead cast are all set to return including Emma Hamilton, Stephen Peacocke, Justine Clarke, Ash Ricardo, Emma Harvie, Rodney Afif, Jack Scott, Sofia Nolan, Thomas Weatherall and Rob Collins (who is nominated in this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards as Best Lead Actor in a Drama for his role as Dr Wayne Yates).

With the planned upgrade of the Broken Hill airport, runway and RFDS facilities taking place during scheduled production, the highly anticipated third season will film in South Australia, with action unfolding across locations in Adelaide and the stunning Flinders Ranges, with the Port Augusta RFDS Base and regional surrounds doubling for Broken Hill.

Co-Creator, Writer and Executive Producer Ian Meadows said: “This series strives to showcase the beauty of regional Australia and the incredible work that the RFDS does to reach and support our most remote communities. We are pleased to have found a new home in South Australia for season three, utilising the Port Augusta RFDS Base and beautiful regional surrounds including Quorn, as well as locations across Adelaide.”

Based on the heroic real-life stories of doctors, nurses, pilots and support staff of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the new season picks up one year later, as the RFDS family is forced to grapple with the fallout of choices and deal with the domino effects of a tragedy. This year the team will face their toughest obstacles yet, forcing them to make big decisions about what they want their lives to be and who they want to share them with.

A special guest, “Lethal Leisel” Jones, who won three gold medals in the pool at four Olympic Games, also joins the show this week. Will she get the recognition she deserves when she Faces The Hundred?

“My hair colour has changed that many times I’m not certain The Hundred will even know who I am. Any blonde swimmer is interchangeable, so I can be Susie O’Neill or Libby Trickett. Hopefully Kate, Guy and Mike can tell the difference between us all,” Leisel says.

Australia’s real-life game of cat and mouse, Hunted: The Million Dollar Heist, returns on Monday, 12 August at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play for a third season with a new look, a new Chief and a mind-blowing twist.

This season we meet nine pairs of ordinary Australians who, right before your eyes, transform into real life fugitives and undertake the unthinkable – a bank robbery.

It’s a modern-day bank heist as the Fugitives break into a bank and steal the money, before making their getaway to disappear without a trace. Their goal is to make it to the extraction point in 20 days and if they evade capture, the money is theirs to keep.

Hunted HQ has a new Chief at the helm. With over 20 years of experience in the Australian Defence Force and having been awarded the Order of Australia for services to the special operations community, Reece Dewar, OAM, steps up to lead the charge.

Reece’s dedicated, experienced, sharply trained team of Hunters must use their arsenal of tools to capture the Fugitives at large.

Australia’s most wanted Fugitives include Gen Z friends from Queensland coined the Dangerous Duo, Jayde and Tayla; recently engaged Queensland couple, Joanna and Lee; NSW father and daughter duo, Tanisha and Bobby and down to earth country girls, Romanee and Chelsea, who will all be going in with a solid plan to elude the Hunters.

Joining them on the run will be Andy and Deb from South Australia. Deb's father was a criminal safe cracker spending 20 years on the run – will she inherently know some tactics that she can use? Andy and Deb will need to keep up with thrill seekers Ondeane and Shelli from Western Australia; while Victorian married couple, Ben and Luke are poised to make their mark on this ultimate adventure.

Friends from NSW, Kaylie and Tony, have speed, street smarts and are constantly thinking ahead while Victorian friends, Akec and Joe will do whatever it takes to make it to the final extraction point.

Australia’s real-life extreme game of hide and seek, Hunted returns with a mind-blowing twist, full of heart-pounding excitement and breathtaking suspense that’ll keep you on the edge of your seats.   

Nine pairs of ordinary Australians turn into shrewd Fugitives, with their eyes on the prize – one million dollars – which is being held at the Bank of Ballarat. It’s a modern-day bank heist as the Fugitives break into the bank and steal the money, before making their getaway to disappear without a trace.

The goal is to make it to the extraction point in 20 days, all while evading capture from the Hunters, a team of some of the best investigators formally of the AFP, ADF, and British Intelligence, as well as special operations and cyber security experts.

These dedicated, experienced, and sharply trained Hunters must use their arsenal of tools to capture the Fugitives at large. They must be ruthless in their conclusions, masterful in their tactics, and relentless in their captures.   

The Hunters will stop at nothing to outthink, outsmart, and outrun the Fugitives striving to escape.

If they evade capture, the money is theirs to keep.
