My Reno Rules nails it

Hit new series reaches 5.3 million on Seven and 7plus

The Seven Network’s My Reno Rules, the new series that saw one Aussie family walk away with $1 million in prize money, was a hit with viewers across Seven and 7plus and has taken the crown as the #1 new entertainment series on commercial free-to-air TV so far this year.

Last night’s Grand Finale, which saw Mitch and Shaz from Queensland claim the $1 million prize, reached 1.5 million Australians, with a national total TV audience of 719,000. The Grand Finale won its timeslot and was up 27% on last week’s episode and up 13% on the series’ first episode.

The Grand Finale also saw Nathan B from NSW and Graham C from Victoria collect a cool $2 million each in prize money.

Across its full season, My Reno Rules averaged 755,000 total TV viewers, including 199,000 watching on 7plus. The series boosted Seven’s 25 to 54 audience in the timeslot by 11% compared to last year.

Self-made billionaire Adrian Portelli purchased two side-by-side dwellings ripe for revival in the Melbourne suburb of Bulleen, monitoring progress throughout the season as four teams raced to transform the tired, rundown 1970s properties into stylish, modern masterpieces.

Hosted by Dr Chris Brown, the debut season of My Reno Rules featured three expert judges: influential design guru Neale Whitaker (The Block, Love It or List It), top buyer’s agent Simon Cohen (Dream Home, Luxe Listings Sydney), and Julia Green, founder of Greenhouse Interiors.

Seven’s Chief Content Officer, Brook Hall, said: “My Reno Rules proved that Australian audiences love nothing more than a great renovation, a genuine competition and a life-changing moment. Reaching 5.3 million Australians in its debut season is a great result and a testament to the show’s unique and engaging format.

“Thank you to Adrian Portelli, Dr Chris Brown, our judges, our incredible contestants and everyone at Seven and Endemol Shine Australia for creating such an outstanding debut season.”

Seven’s National Television Sales Director, Katie Finney, said: “The first season of My Reno Rules demonstrated the power of premium, emotionally charged content to connect brands with Australian audiences at scale.

“With more than five million Australians tuning in across the season, our partners were part of a genuinely historic moment in Australian television. Thank you to LG Electronics Australia, Luxaflex, Highgrove Bathrooms, Carpet Court and Stihl for their support and engagement.”

My Reno Rules was produced by Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Entertainment Company) and distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.

THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENTARY OF AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST SPORTING RIVALRY: ‘ORIGIN STORY’

PREMIERES TONIGHT - WEDNESDAY, MAY 20 ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW

In the build-up to the 2026 AMPOL State of Origin Series exclusive on Nine, the definitive tale of the biggest rivalry in Australian sport will be told in the gripping four-part documentary series ORIGIN STORY, from tonight - Wednesday, May 20 at 8.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

The explosive genesis, tribal warfare, and the deep cultural impact of Australian sport’s greatest rivalry between New South Wales and Queensland is laid bare.

Before it was a ratings behemoth and the flagship event of the rugby league season, State of Origin was a desperate experiment. In Chapter 1 – Origin of Pride viewers return to where it all started in 1980, tracking how a dying, one-sided contest was miraculously transformed into rugby league’s ultimate battleground of identity, pride, and state loyalty.

On the rugby league battlefield, New South Wales and Queensland had been at war since 1908. But for 72 years, it wasn’t a fair fight. Under the old ‘state of residence’ rule, Queensland’s finest players - chasing opportunity in wealthy Sydney clubs - were legally forced to represent New South Wales.

A single rule change ignited State of Origin, transforming a dying contest into rugby league’s fiercest rivalry driven by pride, identity, and state loyalty.

On July 8, 1980, at a packed Lang Park in Brisbane, a bold experiment was born: Game 3 would select players based on where they first fell in love with the game.

Featuring powerful storytelling, rare archival footage and firsthand reflections from the legends who lived it, the series charts the rise of State of Origin from a last-ditch experiment to a defining symbol of identity, pride and sporting excellence.

Produced by the award-winning team at Endemol Shine Australia, a Banijay Entertainment company – the creators of Married at First Sight, MasterChef Australia, Australian Survivor, as well as sports documentaries, Shaking Down the Thunder and No Holds Barred – Origin Story delivers a powerful and emotional look at the moments, players and rivalries that transformed State of Origin into the greatest spectacle in rugby league.

Endemol Shine Australia Director of Content, Marty Benson, said: “This series is something we’re incredibly proud of. The team has poured an enormous amount of passion, care and research into telling the story of State of Origin in a way that feels both cinematic and deeply authentic.

“Beyond the unforgettable moments on the field, this captures the emotion, identity and fierce pride that have made this rivalry such an enduring part of Australian sport and culture.”

Origin Story premieres tonight - Wednesday, May 20, on Channel 9 and 9Now. Check local guides for broadcast times.
